Helene Magno – Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant 

Mrs. Magno joined Riverdale as the LDT/C in 2008. Her professional experience includes: teaching special education students, school administration, and an LDTC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Herbert H. Lehman College and her Master of Science in Special Education from the College of Staten Island.  Mrs. Magno also earned a Masters degree in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  She is certified by the State of New Jersey as a Teacher of the Handicapped, a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant, and a Supervisor.

In her role as Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant, Mrs. Magno:

• Participates in the evaluation, classification and placement of pupils

with special needs.

• Assesses academic proficiency and learning characteristics of each pupil

who has been referred to the child study team for evaluation and interprets the findings via written reports and informal conferences.

• Assists in the development and coordination of an appropriate

individualized education plan for pupils requiring special education

and/or related services. Participates in the ongoing assessment of

academic achievement and educational placement of classified pupils.

• Consults with classroom teachers, administrators and parents regarding

special instructional methods and/or materials necessary to meet the specific needs of individual pupils.
