Superintendent's Office

 August 22, 2022

Dear Riverdale Families and Friends,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying your summer and maximizing the time you spend with your loved ones and on yourself.

Prior to the end of every school year, the rush is on to finalize the school year that is ending and to prepare for summer instruction and the fall. Not an easy task by any means, but we have been hard at work and have made significant progress. I would like to bring to your attention some of the items that have occurred or will be addressed in the 2022-2023 school year.

Consolidation of a grade level

Due to low enrollment, we have consolidated the incoming 2nd grade. This resulted in quite a bit of movement. Teachers have been reassigned to different grade levels, to new classrooms, or to new positions altogether. This situation will lead to additional movement at the end of each year unless the enrollment in this grade level increases. Fortunately for us, we have amazing faculty and staff that understand and are up to the challenges this situation brings.

With support from our amazing Board of Education, we have put grant monies and monies from our budget toward improving our heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The goal was to have the work completed this summer. Unfortunately, since there is a significant lead time in receiving the materials for this project we do not have an expected completion date.

How many of us take pride in our home’s curb appeal and do everything we can to maintain or improve it? Have you upgraded or renovated any space in your home to make it more functional or modern? Have you ever put off an expensive home project to the point that it either breaks or fails and you now have an emergency requiring you to address it immediately?

Our building and grounds have reached a point where we need help beyond our budget to provide resolutions to the aforementioned questions. It is critical to the safety and well-being of every student, teacher, staff, or anyone entering our building. Additionally, addressing these needs will help improve the pride our students have in their school which will lead to greater results educationally, and help continue to highlight why Riverdale is such an amazing community to reside in.

We will be meeting with members of our community in September and October to discuss and ensure our vision aligns with that of the community in hopes of successfully passing our referendum this December.

You have plenty to do and we want to minimize the impact we have on your time at home. A step toward accomplishing this is the expansion of our PaySchools platform to not only allow payments for school lunches but to also accept payment for the technology Annual Usage fee. We hope to build upon this and eventually allow all payments to the school to be made electronically.

Lunch Lines

When student pictures are taken this year, each student will receive an ID card with a barcode that will be kept at the school. The barcode will be representative of their lunch pin#. The pin# has been forgotten by many which cause delays, understandably so. It is only used at lunch, nowhere else. Now, students will be able to go through the lunch line, scan the barcode, and voilà, done. No need to remember a difficult arrangement of numbers.

Our new website is up and running, and it is a big improvement. One of the many things I really like about it is that we are now able to include a face by the name and contact information for all of our amazing faculty, staff, and board! This is still a work-in-progress. If you experience any issue(s), please do not hesitate to let Mrs. Videc in the main office know.

Lastly, please know that we care deeply for our students, staff, and community. We are here to help in any way we can. So, please do not hesitate to contact us should a need arise.

With deep gratitude for your continued support,

Jayson Gutierrez, CPA
